Full of Joy at Lyme Regis

Last week we had the best weather, it averaged about 28˚C every day. On Wednesday (after Mick's night shift) we headed off to a beach in West Dorset.

Lyme Regis is an ancient town, its origins go back to the 8th century when monks distilled salt from the sea water. It's a town of steep streets and it's most outstanding feature is a 13th century harbour known as the Cobb. The Cobb is small in modern standards, but made Lyme Regis a major port where ships traded all over the known world.

From Lyme Regis the dramatic coastline stretches eastwards to Charmouth, a picturesque village well known for its fossil encrusted cliffs and Heritage Coast Centre. Charmouth is famous for the skeleton of a complete, fossilised Icthyosaurus found in 1811 in the cliffs! (I googled Icthyosaurus - it was quite interesting!!!!)

All this history... and we just came here to play on the beach!!!

Lani especially was just so happy to be here. She was giving everyone hoorays and high fives when we told her we were off to the beach for the day!!

Here she is, full of Joy...

Just a little cold...

Sinking Feet...

Checking out the 'Shingles Beach' right next to us!

To start with I thought it was just weird, but the more I think about it, I kinda like the idea... a beach without sand - Mick reckons his Poppa Chall would have loved this beach! I'm sure the rocks warm up and feel quite good for a little while! And you can walk right into the water (kinda like at a river) without getting sandy!

Em had a great time too - she was kinda quiet though and just sat there and played!

Beach huts are so cool.... wouldn't it be great to have one!!

Not sure what's with the face! I think she was trying to look like Aunty Elle!!!! lol

Emily wanted to stand in front of the red one!! (lol)

It was such a nice day to relax - although why is it that when you get home from the beach you don't feel relaxed but rather exhausted! The many different views were great....

... apart from this one... we went to get an ice cream and found a couple who thought they were on a nude beach!!

We quickly snapped a shot - just for the blog!!! lol

Luckily they were gone by the time we reached this...

And isn't this a cute photo....

Lyme Regis is about an hour away. There are so many things that are 'about an hour away' - we are living in such a great spot! England is fantastic!

That looks awesome. Did the rocks hurt your feet? THe thing I hate the most about the beach is the sand and it getting in the car and in the house and all over the place. I also don't like the sharks. But anyway you got a lot of really good photos. Tell Emily that I like red as well..LOL. Maybe she is colored blind,....ha ha. Anyway good blog.

Oh I love the look of this place...I think I could be quite happy living somewhere like that. Not sure about the pebbles. I like sand. It can be a pain at times but a beach without sand is just not right!

ahhh, love these beach pics. You make me want to come back to England and travel Han!

Because everyday is different and we can't remember them all, I thought I had better start writing them down. Welcome to life in the Challis home - where everyday is different!
