A Real Beach...

... in England? no... it couldn't be? A couple of weeks ago we went to check out Cornwall! Cornwall is kind of like England's version of the Gold Coast, well it's not really - because it is nothing like the Gold Coast, but it's where a lot of the British holiday during term breaks and in the summer. There are quite a few holiday parks here - meaning caravan parks with pools, activities and entertainment - most are close to the beach and in the summer they get booked out quite early. Cornwall is England's most southern county, so it's warmer and gets a bit more sun than some of the northern counties. So, even though it's nothing like the Gold Coast, it kind of is for the English - it's where you would go here for a summer holiday (if you were not crossing the channel!).

It obviously wasn't summer when we went, so we didn't experience the 'English summer holiday' but we could see why people would come here in the summer and we were very very surprised to see real sand!!!! It was about a 5 minute walk from the car park into the beach at Holywell Bay.

It felt quite amazing to be walking on real sand! It wasn't beautiful white sand like we have in Australia (which I think I took for granted) but it was pretty decent sand - that you could actually play in if it wasn't wet from the rain! I think it's quite an English thing to do to wear your welly boots to the beach, so that's what the kids did - and they had a great time! We walked up over the sand dunes and saw a beautiful sight, what a lovely place... even on a cool autumn day!

We did quite a bit of exploring while here, we climbed up over the rocks and followed a small stream, we got stuck and had to turn back but it felt quite adventurous! The wind was picking up quite a bit while we were here and quite a few surfers were heading out as we were leaving. It was late afternoon and we were booked into a caravan park around the corner but decided to check out the beach before we checked in.

Boots at the beach is a good idea. Not sure about gloves though. That pic with the kite is a nice pic. Well they all are.

after spending the day at the beach today with the kids and now having a bath full of sand and sand on tiles, in towels, in car, in clothes in toes...i think rocky beaches are a GREAT idea :)

Nice beach!! Yes and I would never thing to take gumboots to the beach either. The less sand to clean up the better!

Because everyday is different and we can't remember them all, I thought I had better start writing them down. Welcome to life in the Challis home - where everyday is different!
