Montparnasse Tower

After our day at Versailles we went up the Montparnasse Tower which was conveniently across the road from our apartment (and how we found out about it!). The kids didn't get to come though because they were sooooo tired and were starting to lose it! Mum and Dad went up first while we put the kids to bed and then, when they got back, we went up. Mum and Dad went up just before it got dark so they got to see all the lights come on, which would have been cool. But it was really dark by the time we went up so that was really nice too. I think because we went up this tower we didn't feel an urgent need to get up the Eiffel Tower. I still really would have liked to, but I think the Montparnasse Tower was probably better in lots of ways anyway...
1. We had no line ups to get in & it wasn't crowded with people
2. We actually got to see the Eiffel Tower and
3. It was right across the road!

{360˚ View of Paris}

The Montparnasse Tower was finished in 1972 and is the only skyscraper in Paris. It has 59 floors which are mainly offices, but the 56th floor is a restaurant and the terrace on the very top is open to the public for viewing the city. It does look a little out of place in Paris' skyline and there was a lot of criticism when it was built, which resulted in it being the last skyscraper built. Just 2 years after its completion the construction of skyscrapers in the city centre was banned. The view and observation deck was awesome though, and it was a fantastic way to spend the evening!

P.S Happy Birthday Elle!

It sure was a bonus being so close to the tower because it was one of the best things we did.

hmm...Paris. It really is a beautiful city.

Because everyday is different and we can't remember them all, I thought I had better start writing them down. Welcome to life in the Challis home - where everyday is different!
