Some French Observations...

*The French Bread stick is named correctly (otherwise known as baguette). They are everywhere - in bakeries, in cafes, in peoples mouths, hanging out of their bags and on the back of their bikes!!!!
- A frenchman is walking along, he gets a little hungry, he stops, he gets out a baguette from his back-pack, he takes out some cheese and 5 different hams, he eats, he is happy!

* Bonjour means hello and Merci means thank-you. This is all I said for 2 weeks! Once home, it took me a few days to say hello and thank-you again without thinking about it first!! You feel a little bad going into a country not knowing their language - but you can survive! It is also interesting to learn that about 60% of every-day English words are taken from the french language!

*Paris really is a beautiful city, especially at night.

*The English language is not as common as you think! I grew up thinking that everyone knows how to speak English - it's the main language! But there are just so many different languages, its unbelievable, no - I didn't just learn this now but... being in Europe and listening to everyone, and hardly hearing any english emphasized that english really is just a second language to HEAPS of people!

*Road Rules in the cities... there are no road rules! The main thing I noticed was the lack of lines on the roads - even at the traffic lights.

*When at Disneyland, and you are waiting to have your photo taken with one of the characters you are just as likely to see a fight as you are at the football!! (Between the mothers.... we experienced a few!)

*There are so many impressive buildings in Paris that they start to become not that impressive!

*If you want to eat a French Crepe while in France, you should do it straight away!! I did have a savoury one - which was really nice, but missed out on a sweet one... can't believe it really!!

*France is hot in July.

*They love to 'people watch' and when ever you walk down the streets, lined with brasseries you kind of feel like the entertainment! All the seats are facing outwards instead of around the tables.

*If you are visiting one of France's cities you are better off to leave your nose behind!

*A lot of the country-side that we saw was fields of corn. The villages are a lot like English towns and villages, although if it is possible the roads are even thinner!

*Cigarettes are everywhere!

to be continued... (when I think of some more).

I like the brief synopsis. Between yours and mum and dad's I have the best of both worlds.

Because everyday is different and we can't remember them all, I thought I had better start writing them down. Welcome to life in the Challis home - where everyday is different!
