On Wednesday we were back in the car, but this time heading East. We haven't been to much of the East side of England apart from London, so it was nice to be going in a different direction. We decided to take the chance to visit the London temple (which isn't actually in London but in Surrey - which is an hour South of London) while Gail and Philip were here to watch the kids for us. Nan really wanted to go too, so it worked out well for us all I think. It was really nice to be inside the temple and I'm really glad we got to go. The girls had a wonderful time exploring the gardens outside with Grandma and Poppa and it felt really special to walk out and have them waiting there for us.
We then spent a bit of time in the distribution centre and the girls were very excited to get their very own copy of the Book of Mormon (those miniature blue copies) which has helped us heaps with our family scripture reading. The girls keep their copies by their beds and enjoy marking and reading one verse each a night, and are learning lots of new words in the process - Emily is so funny trying to say some of the big ones!! We then had a walk around the beautiful gardens before heading off to Maidstone where we were staying the night. (The temple is 3 hours away from Taunton).
The London England temple opened on the 7th September 1958. It was the first temple to be built in the British Isles and the second in Europe. President David O. McKay chose the site for the temple and dedicated it. It was closed for 2 years in 1990 for extensive remodelling and refurbishment and rededicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley in 1992. The London England temple currently serves the Southern part of England, London, parts of Ireland, Wales and some of France.

looks absolutely beautiful. When you mentioned that the others walked in the gardens while you were in the temple I was imagining doing that at Melb or Syd temple and thinking "well that wouldn't take very long" but I can see that the gardens there are a little bit bigger!
COOL!. I would like to visit every temple in the WHOLE world one day - I probably should start hey??? It would take a few years I reckon.. not to mention a hell of a lot of money.... -although in Utah you could to to like 5/6 in one day!!!!

Forgot to ask...are those minature blue scriptures like the minature children's song books?? I have never seen them before. How awesome. Livy has the big blue one next to her bed too and we use it for FHE. Those little ones sound perfect for church/primary and family scripture study though!!
A temple worker spoiled the girls beautifully. He insisted they should experience the tempe and took them in to the desk and gave them each a temple schedule with a picture of the temple.
They were such a treat to look after in such special grounds and they so looked forward to you coming out. We shall blog the 'coming out' pics.
