We took the girls up to Mt Wellington on Monday afternoon and it was freezing - as it always is up there. The Suby told us it was 0 degrees, and as you could imagine Lani didn't want to get out of the car! Emily didn't seem to care and was quite happy having a look around with her dad.
We collected some snow to bring home so that Lani could have a play in decent weather conditions! She was very proud of her snowman and kept an eye on him all evening - wondering when he would melt!
It kinda sucks that it is so cold up there because I remember going to the snow as a kid - down the Huon and you could play in it all day because it wasn't cold. I used to love 'snow days' - this was when we would get a day off school because the road would be closed and the teachers couldn't get down, so we would rug up and drive 10mins up the road, jump someones fence, and spend the day in the snow. SO much fun! Dad would always make us wear bread bags over our hands and feet so that we wouldn't get wet - which was great cause that meant more time to play!

Lani looks as small as the snowman in the photo. greta photos.
Great...hahah
i remember the bread bags!! i said to jeremy the other day we should go to the snow, but we'd have to get keep some bread bags for our feet! i remember once i took elle and ange up the hill (and maybe patrick?) and told them NOT to take their boots off. what do you think happened? yes someone took their boots off, and we didn't have breadbags so they were all wet and cold, and we couldn't get them back on.....
oh - where did he get all the bread bags from anyway??
I would wear washing up gloves over the top of my school gloves and a good old japara cause they were all the rage right!! I actually have a photo somewhere with the washing up gloves in the snow, it may make an appearance at some stage or not.
alison that would be PATRICK that took his shoes off.. and i SO remember it.. it was just below the Benelus's (ok I have no idea how to spell that)...
I think eventually we did get the shoe back on but we then had to go home early because it ruined the snow trip!!!
Lani defineltly wouldn't make it in FInland.... Emily would though!! Lani does look pretty cold though, but yet so proud of her snow man!! it's a pretty cool one by the way...
That is a lovely snowman - traditions like that are great.
I can remember going up Bermuda road somewhere in the snow. And once we saw a huge wombat crossing the road.
They are great photos!! Making me feel cold reading and seeing those pictures though!
I love Lani's little snowman, great idea to bring some home!
I remember having ward trips to the snow, they were SO much fun... and yes we did the bread bags too
Is that the Abomnible snowman with Emily in the first pic?........O no it's Mick I think!
Wish that we had somewhere like Mt Wellington that is so easy to get too. We haven't been brave enough to take the boys to the snow this year (yet). Looks like heaps of fun and I'm sure the girls will always remember it.
Love the Snowman! I have been dying to take Livy up the snow. I know she would love it.
Your photos are great. x
